AUSTRALIA - ROAD TRIP The great continent of Australia is very suitable for road trips, but it is big and you have to choose your area. Since we wanted to see The Great barrier reef and Fraser Island we decided to go along the east coast which offers a lot of sightseeing. We rented a Motorhome, a Jeep with a 4 wheel drive. This was very convenient and we saved a lot of money when staying in campsites instead of checking into motels or hotels as we have done on previous road trips. The 4 wheel also gave us the opportunity to go to Fraser island on our own, without joining a tour bus. Driving a Jeep is not as fast and smooth as it it with a regular car, but the freedom of driving on dirt roads and beaches was really great! PRACTICAL
When to go: All year, Dec-Feb is high season, this is the summer and it can get hot up north, we went in Dec-Jan.
Getting there: Take an international flight to Sydney, Melbourne or any other big city.
Money: Australian dollars.
