GILI AIR
Gili Air is the calmest and according to us the most idyllic island out of the three Gili Islands. With it’s beautiful beaches, cozy reggae bars, lack of roads and traffic it’s the perfect hang out for a chilled and romantic holiday. We spent five days at Gili Air and stayed at The Beach Club, located on the island's eastern shore, a five minutes walk from the pier. The view from our beach was one of the nicest we ever saw, calm crystal blue water and the dramatic volcanoes of Lombok at the horizon. This is the area which is most suitable for swimming, at the other beaches of the island it isn’t possible to enter the water during low tide because of the corals. For good snorkeling we walked 300m (at least) north, when we were done we just followed the gentle current back home to The Beach Club. If you’re looking to do some scuba diving there are 2–3 dive centers nearby and the staff can help you organize any kind of trip you want. We were really happy with our private snorkel trip with the home made ”Glass Bottom Boat”. At first we tried to find a bungalow on the beach, but soon realized there aren’t any to be found. On this island it’s the restaurants and bars that are located on the beach while the bungalows lie a few steps inland. Anyway we really enjoyed having our meals and cocktails on the beach. The bungalows of The Beach Club were super nice, beautiful, spacious and clean. Everything was shining and the cleaner even put our spread out belongings in order every day. When it comes to dinner there are a lot of really nice places on Gili Air to choose from. Take a walk around the island (takes about 1h) to find them, or go by horse and carriage.
