ICELAND EAST
Vatnajökull is one of the world's largest glaciers and it dominates the south east part of Iceland and is surrounded by mountains, the scenery is very beautiful. We had a look at Svartifoss, the Black waterfall which is located just south of Vatnajökull. Last stop by the glacier was the Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon, they offer boat rides if you want to get closer to the ice bergs. After Vatnajökull driving further east we came to the East Fjords, driving in and out in these fjords took some time and the landscape was very dramatic. The small town of Djúpivogur was a nice place to stop for lunch, from here the road goes more in a northern direction passing through the largest city in eastern Iceland, Egilsstaðir. A good place to get some fuel and supplies before going up in the highlands.
