ICELAND WEST
We drove out west to see the beautiful mountain Kirkjufell near the town of Grundarfjörður, the road out here is mostly dirt road, the landscape is stunning. The area around Grundarfjörður is also very beautiful and it is very peaceful out here, well worth a visit. Driving east from Grundarfjörður heading for Gullfoss waterfall we noticed we were closer to Reykjavik seeing a lot of more tourists around these areas. We also visited the Stokkur geyser area ending up in small town of Laugarvatn. A visit to the Laugarvatn Fontana hot baths was a very pleasant experience, highly recommended.
Going back towards Reykjavik we visited the Thingvellir National Park where the North American and The European continental plates meets, or rather drifts apart. This is where the Icelandic people founded their first parliament. All attractions in this area are more crowded than we got used to due to the proximity of Reykjavik.
