LEMBONGAN
Lembongan is located a 30 minutes boat ride from Bali and Sanur, it is a small island located close to the bigger Nusa Penida, the area is famous for scuba diving with Mola Mola (Sunfish) and Manta rays. Nusa Ceningan is located between Lembongan and Penida, this is the place for surfers who enjoy the big waves hitting the small island.
Lembongan is not the best place to go for laying on the beach, there are beaches but most of them are not good for swimming. The main beach is crowded with boats and used for seaweed farming, Dream Beach and Sunset Beach has big waves and strong currents, the only beach suitable for sunbathing and snorkeling is Mushroom beach, but we found the amount of boats and day tourists quite disturbing. The beach is divided into two parts by a big rock formation, if you make it to the other side you’ll find a much nicer and less crowded beach there.
When staying at Mushroom Beach you have Dream Beach and Sunset Beach within walking distance, there is a nice restaurant on Sunset Beach called the Sandy Bay Beach Club which is cozy and good for some burgers and Mexican food, but despite the name of the beach you will actually not see the sun set into the ocean from here. Dream Beach Huts at Dream Beach is a good place for drinks and happy hour by the infinity pool. Another tip is to rent a scooter for a day, it is very cheap and a nice way of seeing the island. The roads can be very rough so it’s good to have some scooter experience.
