RAILEY BEACH
Railey beach may be our favorite place in Thailand, it is located just outside Ao Nang and getting here is easy. The Railey peninsula is totally cut off by limestone cliffs from the main land, the only way to go here is by water so there are no cars or motorbikes. Railey is a mecca for Climbers and sun lovers.
There are 4 beaches around Railey: Tonsai Beach: This is the place for climbers, very bohemic and no luxury resorts. Railey West: This beach is very nice for bathing or laying in the sun perfectly framed with high limestone cliffs, hotels around here are in the middle range. Railey East: This is no place for ordinary beach-life as it is a mangrove beach, but the north side of this beach offers some nice accommodation, bars, restaurants and night life, very cozy with reggae music everywhere. There are some nice cliffs for climbing around here as well. Ao Phra Nang: This is the most famous beach around Railey and this part of Thailand, framed with even more dramatic limestone cliffs than Railay West and a big rock in front of it in the ocean, a spectacular place but it might get crowded with day tourists coming in from Ao Nang. What to do around Railey? Climbing, Kayaking, Sun bathing and relaxing with good food and drinks are the obvious choices but there are a few other things as well.
Going for a day trip to the nearby Chicken Island and Poda Island is a must, go at low tide to enjoy it the most, snorkeling out here can be good, at least better than Railey anyway.
You can also go for dive trips to Koh Haa, Hin Daeng or Phi Phi from here.
