SHIRAHAMA
Located south-west on the Kii peninsula is the small town of Shirahama. It’s an Onsen resort with many hot springs. Shirahama means “white beach” and that’s the reason we came here. We were not disappointed. The beach really is wonderfully white, and the water was calm and lovely warm, around 28°C/82,4°F. Lot’s of Japanese tourist come for holiday here, and it’s nice to observe the Japanese leisure and family life. Our hotel had it’s own Onsen (hot spring/bath) and we enjoyed the traditional Japanese bathing rituals here. Men and women are separated and you bathe nude.
