SIMILAN ISLANDS LIVEABOARD
Similan Islands are 9 Islands located 90km west of Khao Lak and famous for very clear water and the finest scuba diving in Thailand, there is no real accommodation on the islands.
We have been on a few liveaboards around Similan islands by now and the diving is always very good, they usually go like this:
Start around Similans 1-2 days of diving there, you can expect good visibility and nice coral dives, some dives are around big boulders, very nice.
Then the boat goes north to Koh Bon for some Manta diving if you are lucky and then further north to Koh Tachai looking for more big stuff. Next stop is usually Richelieu rock, the most famous dive site in Thailand, often crowded and for a good reason. Diving here is really good, big schools of fish, great soft corals and rocks, a sunset dive here is a special experience.
The trip usually ends with a dive or two at the Boonsung wreck on the way back to Khao Lak, this is another great dive site with good macro life and lots of schools of fish, like a swimming in a fish soup, the only one problem for a photographer: bring a macro lens or a wide angle lens?
