SUIMEIKAN ONSEN
This was the last onsen we visited during our trip, located in a secluded and beautiful spot near the Shinhotaka Ropeway in the mountains. The 90 minutes bus ride from Matsumoto is alone a reason going here, the views of the river and mountains on the way are spectacular. Suimeikan Onsen has one big mixed onsen, and three smaller private ones. The onsens are all outdoors and open for 24 hours. You’re provided with a green cloth to wear when you bathe, but many Japanese prefer being nude – even in the big mixed onsen. This made us feel a bit shy so we kept to the private ones and only visited the big onsen in the evening and early morning when no one else was there. The surroundings are absolutely beautiful with the river and the mountains. Traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner are included in the price.
