TÓRSHAVN
The capital of Faroe Islands Tórshavn, named after the God of thunder, holds almost half of the country's population. Still it’s very village-like and actually one of the smallest capitals in the world. It’s situated in the southeast part of Streymoy and the city center is built around the harbor. Everything is very local and small, but for those interested in food Tórshavn has a few pretty praised restaurant to offer and even one Michelin starred (KOKS). However, as our pictures implies, fine dining isn’t for us. Instead we enjoyed our dinners at an Italian restaurant (Toscana), the pizzeria (Pizza King) and the local pub (Sirkus). We really enjoyed Sikus which came alive at night with drunk locals as well as drunk Swedish tourists. We were also lucky enough to experience “The Culture Night” which was the only evening when the streets of downtown were filled with people. Bands played, truck food was served and excited kids ran around in too little cloth in the bright summer’s night. Tórshavn is a very pleasant place and an excellent point of departure for exploring all of the beautiful Faroe islands.
