NORTH QUEENSLAND
Whitehaven beach in the Whitsunday Islands is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world so we had to go there of course, access to the Whitsundays is via Airlie Beach. This is a small but lively beach community with a lot of tourists and a small beach. Swimming is not recommended without a stinger suit.
From here we drove towards Cairns and the landscape changed with more mountains. We were no longer allowed to swim in the ocean because of aggressive salt water crocodiles. Before Cairns we stopped at the Girringun National Park to have a look at the Wallaman falls. Most people come to Cairns for The Great Barrier Reef and The Daintree National Park, but there are some nice things about Cairns that makes it worth a visit. It is a great place for food with lots of cheap and authentic Asian restaurants and they have a huge outdoor pool next to the beach, here you can take a swim not being bothered by crocodiles. We also thought the free city wifi was a really nice detail. Backpackers love Cairns and there are a lot of them here. Gilligan's is their favorite place to stay and party. The Daintree national Park is located 2 hours north of Cairns and offers some impressive jungle and beaches, Cape Tribulation is where the jungle meets the ocean and there are some great beaches to see, but not for swimming.
