SAO MIGUEL, CENTRAL The crater area in the middle of the island around Lagoa do Fogo lake is a beautiful region with some great viewpoints. There are no roads down to the lake but you can easily reach the lake by foot, plan for about half a day if you want to go. Another site is the volcanic island Ilheu de Vila Franca outside the small village of Vila Franca. The small Island is a crater just outside the south coast and you can get there by boat.
